NOTES
The organ was originally built for Seattle's Gala Theatre, and was one of two, II-
manual, 5-rank Smith unit organs in Seattle. The other was installed in the Madrona
Gardens Theatre.
It was moved to First A.M.E. Church by Balcom and Vaughan in the 1930's, and was re-
placed there in 1956 by a new, II-manual, 10-rank Wicks pipe organ.
The organ then was moved to Port Madison Lutheran Church from First A.M.E. in Seattle,
presumably by Balcom and Vaughan in 1956, and was installed as a memorial. A plaque at
the console reads:
MEMORIAL PIPE ORGAN
dedicated to the
GLORY of GOD
May 6, 1956
In Loving Memory Of
Bert Torvanger Elinore A. Skartvelt
Richard B. Pederson Emily Yankowsky
Jette Monsaas Trangen
In 1997, Port Madison Lutheran contracted Steven Cook of Edmonds, WA. to build for them
a new, II-manual, tracker action pipe organ to be installed in 1998. The Smith was sub-
sequently sold to Dr. Robert Schladetzky of Port Ludlow for inclusion with a private
lodge installation on his property. The Smith was removed from Port Madison Lutheran by
Dr. Schladetzky and Clint Meadway in October, 1998. The console will not be used in Port
Ludlow.
