Several Pitsburgh newspapers earlier than 12/3/1853 stated that Trinity church was to receive a new organ built by Jardine Organ Co.
The 12/3/1853 article provides the largest amount of information including the specification
$2500

keyboard compass 4-1/2 octaves
Pedal board 1-1/2 octaves
The Sun Paper article conflicts the Jardine organ, by stating a new organ by Henry Berger was contracted to build an organ for Trinity Episcopal, even including the name of the Rector.
CHURCH ORGAN. - The authorities of the trinity Church, Pittsburg, (sic), Rev Theodore B. Lyman, pastor, have ordered of Mr. Henry Berger, of Baltimore, a fine organ, which is to be completed and erected during the present year. The case will be of the Gothic style of architecture., in imitation oak, measuring 17 feet 2 inches in height,15 feet wide, and 8 feet 9 inches deep. The instrument will contain all the brilliant stops, two rows of keys, pedal and swell organ &c.
It is possible the Berger had been asked to provide a quote to build the organ but did not secure the contract. Research into Berger's work shows at least one other similar instance where he claimed to have been in the process of building a new organ but later data finds another builder actually did the work.
