From The Diapason December 1949, pg. 39: FOR SALE- "Forty Nine Rank, 2982 pipe four manual Steere organ. Built 1911; includes full 32-ft pedal open. Console recently overhauled by Aeolian-Skinner Company. Remote control combination and coupler action. Priced for immediate sale and removal by buyer; $5,000. Christ Church Cathedral, 37 Chestnut Street, Springfield, Mass" (More research will be needed to determine if the organ was sold and found a new home).
Updated through online information from Scot Huntington. This organ either replaced, or was a rebuild incorporating the previous organ, a 3-manual Steere & Turner, No. 205, 1885; which in turn replaced E. & G.G. Hook No. 14, 1834, relocated from St. John's Church, Providence, Rhode Island and installed second hand in Christ Church, Springfield, in 1851.
