Austin Organ Co.
Opus 272, 1907

Austin 272 no longer at First Church CS. The existing Sunday School organ was built by Oliver Lowe (Oliver Organ Co. of Berkeley, CA), date unknown, probably in the 20s or 30s. It may contain some Austin pipe work, and possibly the facade of Austin Op. 272, but it is mechanically unrelated to anything Austin may have built. The stop list seen on this entry is for the Oliver Organ Co. instrument as it currently exists in the Sunday School chapel.

The instrument is extant and playable as of 2/19/2024, though you can hear an occasional cipher. It is used every week for Sunday School. There are two Austin organs at First Church of Christ, Scientist. [ed.: in a rebuilt state with tonal changes.]

Updated through information from David Zechman, courtesy of Vincent Ho: -- Opus 272 was apparently moved to First Presbyterian Church, Alameda by an unidentified builder when Opus 2204 was installed here. Opus 272 is still there, although it has been modified tonally and has a new console.

Updated through on-line information from Vincent Ho. -- This organ no longer exists. Currently the church has a 1953 Austin organ (No. 2204) instead.
