John G.P. Leek came to the United States in 1961. He worked for Walter Holtkamp Jr. in Ohio, then as organ technician for Oberlin College. He started as an organbuilder while in Oberlin, Ohio, c. 1976; He was sole proprietor doing business under his own name as both organbuilder and harpsichord maker. He retired around 2002 and his son, James, took over the business. James Leek incorporated in 2006 as the Leek Pipe Organ Company. The company relocated to Berea, Ohio and is still active as of May, 2017.
